How Quality Caustic Prills are Created
Manufactured through a multi-stage chemical process involving brine ionization, sodium amalgam formation, chlorine generation, amalgam decomposition, and crystallization. First, an aqueous sodium chloride (NaCl) solution undergoes electrolysis, causing it to dissociate into sodium and chloride ions that migrate toward charged electrodes. Sodium forms an amalgam with mercury at the cathode, while chlorine gas is released at the anode. The sodium amalgam is then reacted with water to produce caustic soda and hydrogen gas. Finally, the caustic soda solution is cooled and crystallized, forming solid granules that are prepared for packaging and industrial distribution.
